Rackspace Spot

Cloud infrastructure auctioned in an open market.
Delivered as turnkey, fully managed Kubernetes clusters.

Bid from $0.001/hr

How It Works

Choose your preferred cloud server type
Choose your preferred server class - whether General Purpose, Compute Heavy or Memory Heavy. Available in configurations from 1-16 vCPUs, and 1-120GB of RAM.
Set your own price by making a bid
To make a bid, specify the highest price you are willing to pay for the selected configuration. Available servers are allocated in an open market auction, so you will have your servers for as long as the market price is below your maximum bid price.
Consume via kubectl
Your allocated servers are delivered in a Cloudspace, which includes a fully managed Kubernetes control plane. We fully manage the K8s stack, including the control plane nodes, so you can focus on getting things done using K8s.
Stay in control as prices and capacity change
Make informed bids using our “bid price insights” that show you capacity availability at different price thresholds. You can also set alerts to be informed as market conditions change. Finally, if the market price rises above your max bid price, you will be notified.
Automate with Terraform
Automate the provisioning, pre-emption handling, and reconfiguration of your Cloudspaces using our Terraform provider. Deploy and operate Cloudspaces with 1 simple command.

Key Benefits

Open market lowers prices

Fully managed Kubernetes

Rich Add-Ons

Bid for cloud servers from Rackspace's large inventory of cloud capacity. Bids are fulfilled by an open market auction, within minutes.

The market price for servers is determined by the final cut-off price in the auction. Existing bids for capacity are not pre-empted unless the market price exceeds the highest price in the bid.

Leverage Kubernetes, without the complexity of managing all the moving parts. The Kubernetes control plane is fully managed, so you don't have to worry about configuring high availability, upgrades, or troubleshooting.

In addition, Spot comes out of the box with two storage classes for persistent storage (ssd and sata), a network-policy capable CNI (using Calico), and load balancers.

Bring your own favorite K8s helm charts of Operators today, while our engineers are hard at work to include these out-of-the-box, including:

  • DBaaS operators
  • Cluster backup
  • Enhanced monitoring
  • Security scanning
  • ML/Ops tooling
