x1e.xlarge is AWS's memory-optimized EC2 size at 4 vCPU and 122 GiB. In the name, "x" is the extra-memory line, "1" is the generation, "e" marks extended capacity and "xlarge" is the size within the x1e family. It runs on High Frequency Intel Xeon E7-8880 v3 (Haswell) at 2.3 GHz, and AWS introduced it in November 2017. AWS has since shipped x2gd and x8i; x2gd.xlarge is the direct replacement at this size, scoring 78,390 CoreMark/s against this instance's 61,300 — roughly 28% more throughput for the same vCPU count. Rackspace Spot maps this to mh.vs1.2xlarge (16 vCPU, 128 GiB), giving you 12 more vCPU and 6 GiB more memory, $0.834/hr on AWS in US East (N. Virginia), from $0.021/hr on Rackspace Spot.
Match qualityNo local disk
x1e.xlarge comes with 1 × 120 GB SSD attached to the machine. Rackspace Spot nodes use network storage only, so that disk does not come with it.
If you were using the local disk as fast scratch space — temporary files, a local cache, an index — you will need a persistent volume or object storage instead, and both are slower to read. If it was just extra space you never depended on, nothing changes.
