t1.micro

t1.micro is AWS's micro EC2 size at 1 vCPU and 0.61 GiB. In the name, "t" is burstable, "1" is the generation and "micro" is the size within the t1 family. It runs on Variable at 2.5 GHz, and AWS introduced it in September 2010. AWS has since shipped t2, t3, t4g and t8i; t2.micro is the direct replacement at this size. Rackspace Spot maps this to gp.vs1.medium (2 vCPU, 4 GiB), giving you 1 more vCPU and 3.39 GiB more memory, about 90% below the US East (N. Virginia) on-demand rate.

When to use it
Good for
  • ●Low-traffic sites and always-on background services
  • ●Learning, prototyping and throwaway environments
  • ●Cron hosts and small agents
  • ●Workloads that fit inside 0.61 GiB of RAM
  • ●Small, steady services that do not need more than 1 vCPU
Avoid if
  • ●Starting a new deployment. t2.micro is the newer generation at this size.
  • ●The working set needs more than 0.61 GiB of RAM
  • ●GPU or FPGA acceleration is needed
  • ●Anything with a sustained load. Burst credits run out.
  • ●More than 0.61 GiB of RAM per vCPU is needed — that ratio is fixed for the whole family
  • ●Local NVMe or instance-store disk is a hard requirement
Stop overpaying AWS. This compute costs $15/mo on AWS vs $1/mo on Rackspace Spot.
  • Spot sells spare capacity at market prices. It is the cheapest compute on the internet.
  • Prices are set by supply and demand. You pay what the market decides.
  • Compute is delivered as fully managed Kubernetes. All infrastructure is taken care of.
  • Egress costs $0.01/GB after the free allowance. AWS charges $0.09/GB.
