The r9gd.large is a memory-optimized AWS EC2 instance: 2 vCPU and 16 GiB of memory, 8.00 GiB per vCPU. In the name, "r" stands for RAM, "9" is the generation, "gd" marks AWS Graviton (ARM) processors and local NVMe storage and "large" is the size within the r9gd family. It runs on AWS Graviton5 Processor at 3.3 GHz, and AWS introduced it in August 2026. r9gd is the current generation of the r family, so there is no newer AWS size to migrate to. Rackspace Spot's mh.vs2.medium is a like-for-like substitute at 2 vCPU and 16 GiB, about 93% below the US East (N. Virginia) on-demand rate.
