The r8id.large pairs 2 vCPU with 16 GiB of RAM, the 8.00 GiB-per-vCPU ratio that marks a memory-optimized instance. In the name, "r" stands for RAM, "8" is the generation, "id" marks Intel processors and local NVMe storage and "large" is the size within the r8id family. It runs on Intel Xeon Scalable (Granite Rapids) at 3.9 GHz, and AWS introduced it in February 2026. AWS has since shipped r9g; r9g.large is the direct replacement at this size. mh.vs2.medium on Rackspace Spot lines up one-for-one: 2 vCPU and 16 GiB, about 93% below the US East (N. Virginia) on-demand rate.
