The r5a.2xlarge is a memory-optimized AWS EC2 instance: 8 vCPU and 64 GiB of memory, 8.00 GiB per vCPU. In the name, "r" stands for RAM, "5" is the generation, "a" marks AMD processors and "2xlarge" is the size within the r5a family. It runs on AMD EPYC 7571 at 2.5 GHz, and AWS introduced it in November 2018. AWS has since shipped r6a, r7a, r8a and r9g; r6a.2xlarge is the direct replacement at this size, scoring 161,567 CoreMark/s against this instance's 104,405 — roughly 55% more throughput for the same vCPU count. Rackspace Spot's mh.vs1.xlarge is a like-for-like substitute at 8 vCPU and 64 GiB, about 93% below the US East (N. Virginia) on-demand rate.
