The c9gd.metal-48xl is a compute-optimized AWS EC2 instance: 192 vCPU and 384 GiB of memory, 2.00 GiB per vCPU. In the name, "c" stands for compute, "9" is the generation, "gd" marks AWS Graviton (ARM) processors and local NVMe storage and "metal-48xl" is the size within the c9gd family. It runs on AWS Graviton5 Processor at 3.3 GHz, and AWS introduced it in June 2026. c9gd is the current generation of the c family, so there is no newer AWS size to migrate to. No single Spot node covers 192 vCPU and 384 GiB, so the equivalent is a fleet: 12 × ch.vs1.2xlarge, 192 vCPU and 384 GiB in total, about 95% below the US East (N. Virginia) on-demand rate. Spot delivers compute as managed Kubernetes, so a node pool of that size is the native shape of the answer rather than a workaround — provided the workload scales horizontally.
