c8ine.large

c8ine.large is AWS's compute-optimized EC2 size at 2 vCPU and 4 GiB. In the name, "c" stands for compute, "8" is the generation, "ine" marks Intel processors, enhanced networking and extended capacity and "large" is the size within the c8ine family. It runs on Intel Xeon Scalable (Granite Rapids) at 3.9 GHz, and AWS introduced it in April 2026. AWS has since shipped c9g; c9g.large is the direct replacement at this size, scoring 72,068 CoreMark/s against this instance's 47,630 — roughly 51% more throughput for the same vCPU count. On Rackspace Spot the same shape is ch.vs2.medium — 2 vCPU, 4 GiB, matched on both dimensions, $0.170/hr on AWS in US East (N. Virginia), from $0.002/hr on Rackspace Spot.

When to use it
Good for
  • ●Scientific modelling and simulation
  • ●Ad serving and real-time bidding
  • ●Game servers and matchmaking
  • ●Workloads that fit inside 4 GiB of RAM
  • ●Small, steady services that do not need more than 2 vCPU
  • ●Network-heavy services — AWS rates this size at 3.125 Gigabit
Avoid if
  • ●The working set needs more than 4 GiB of RAM
  • ●Local NVMe or instance-store disk is a hard requirement
  • ●GPU or FPGA acceleration is needed
  • ●Memory-hungry applications. A memory-optimized family gives more RAM per dollar.
  • ●More than 2.00 GiB of RAM per vCPU is needed — that ratio is fixed for the whole family
$124/mo on AWS on-demand against $1/mo on Rackspace Spot for the equivalent — market-priced, not list-priced.
  • Spot sells spare capacity at market prices. It is the cheapest compute on the internet.
  • Prices are set by supply and demand. You pay what the market decides.
  • Compute is delivered as fully managed Kubernetes. All infrastructure is taken care of.
  • Egress costs $0.01/GB after the free allowance. AWS charges $0.09/GB.
